The setup for compilations, browse categories and containers is different. Separate steps are listed below for list and field setup with target mapping instructions.
JSTOR Compilations and Setup
JSTOR Compilation is a global list to which a Forum cataloger can add local values. The categorical, thematic, or descriptive grouping compiles the item into a larger sub-collection in JSTOR’s Open Community Collections.
For example:
JSTOR site: South Asia Open Archives on JSTOR
Compilation: Women & Gender on JSTOR
The JSTOR Compilations list is auto-configured to the Compilation field when setting up a new project using the JSTOR template. If you don’t use the JSTOR template when setting up a project or you’re adding a compilation field to an existing project, which wasn’t set up using the JSTOR Template, you will have to add a new list field, and link it to the JSTOR Compilation list in your project. When setting up a JSTOR collection target, the Compilation project field should map to the JSTOR Compilation field. Please check your mapping before publishing.
JSTOR Containers and Setup
A Container describes the larger work or hierarchical organization that contains the item. Examples include the title of a book when individual chapters are the items being described; the title of a periodical when individual issues or articles are being described; the series, box, and/or folder hierarchy in an archival collection.
For example:
JSTOR site: South Asia Open Archives on JSTOR
Compilation: Women & Gender on JSTOR
Container: The Young Women of India and Ceylon on JSTOR
Since it’s not included as a field in the JSTOR template, a container field will need to be added to a project’s field configuration, and it should be set up as a list field. When given the option to add a field type, choose List field. You will then be prompted to Create a List field in the dialog window. You will only need to create one Container list in Forum. Each time you add a Container field to a project, you will then be able to link the existing Container list to that field. Follow the steps to create your container list by including the following required fields in your list field configuration:
Field Label |
Field Type |
Name (main term) |
Text |
Description |
Text Area |
Slug |
Text |
Resource Type |
List linked to JSTOR Resource Type |
Publication |
Text |
Coverage |
Text |
Language |
List linked to Shared Shelf Language |
Parent |
*List linked to the list you’re creating |
Identifier |
List linked to JSTOR Identifier |
You must follow this exact set-up in order for the JSTOR Container to function properly.
*The parent field will only be linked to the new list in the administrative tools, you do not need to link the parent to your list in the cataloguing tools.
Once the list structure has been created, you will then continue setting up the Container project field. Most importantly, the Value should be set to “Accept One Value Only” and the Cataloging Forms box checked. See Manage Lists, for more information on List functionality in Forum.
Once finished, please contact Forum Support in order to get the Container active for your Forum instance. We will need the following information from you to process your request:
- List ID, (which is found in the URL when the List is highlighted in List Settings)
- Whether or not terms have or have not been added to the list
The container project field should map to the JSTOR Container field. Check mapping before publishing, and edit the mapping if necessary.
